A weekly glimpse into my Catalan adventures

This week was a lot more low-key than previous weeks. The weather fluctuated a lot and was pretty unpredictable making it a little difficult to make plans. Nevertheless, the week started off great with a group 5 km run down by the beach with Razze run club and Ugo’s Corner.

Over 170 people attended, making it by far the biggest run club I’ve ever been to. It was a little overwhelming and the corrals for various paces weren’t well explained (or maybe they were and it was just too loud for me to hear what was going on) but the energy was amazing. It was a very similar vibe to running a race. Such a large group of people running alongside one another and random people cheering us on from the road definitely added to the experience.

The weather was probably the best I’ve had so far since my time in Barcelona, and I took advantage of it by going on a group hike at Parc de la Collserola with some of the people I met at the Sando Cafe Sando x GIGANTE group run a few weeks ago.

I spent the rest of the week exploring Gràcia, where I discovered Sitio, a super cool workshop-meets-coffee-shop featuring a selection of locally made garments from recycled textiles. The space was super interesting and you could see the thought that went into curating everything; it is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

This week’s highlights

ONIS COFFEE

Cortado and raspberry mascarpone pastry - maybe the best pastry I’ve had this year.

Crown moulding, antique frames, and wood furniture and fixtures made the inside feel comforting yet upscale.

Another week, another highlight… and another food related one. I visited ONIS intending to only try the coffee but when I saw the absolutely colossal raspberry mascarpone pastry I had to give it a try. The texture was a little more doughy than a croissant, topped with freeze dried raspberry, and filled - and I mean filled - with the most delicious mascarpone cream. This may be the best sweet treat I’ve eaten this year and might even top the delicious cardamom bun from Bartine Bakery in The Hague that I still dream about.

A glimpse at next week…

I’m super excited for the coming week. Here are a few of the things I have planned:

  • Joining new group runs on Saturday and Sunday, plus a ton of other runs planned throughout the week, as well!

  • Visiting the Picasso museum; certain museums offer free entry on the first Sunday of the month and though they “sell out” super quickly, I managed to reserve a time slot!

  • After visiting quite a few cafes serving Three Marks Coffee in the past week, and really enjoying my coffees, I’m eager to try and visit their location in Eixample.

It’s nice to reflect on my weeks and see how they continue to unfold as I settle into more of a routine and as the weather gets nicer. It’s crazy to think that I’m already into my second month here and though I keep trying to race through everything on my list, I’m trying to remind myself to breathe and take it all in.
